## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Researchers analyzed data from 1,039 cities worldwide. Higher green-space quantity or quality was associated with 23–34% lower extreme-heat exposure for birds. Modelled expansion of green cover by roughly 5–10% of urban area produced the largest heat-exposure reductions, and higher green-space quality was also associated with greater bird diversity.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Percent canopy or total green area is not a complete ecological performance metric. Condition and quality can alter wildlife exposure and diversity, which makes landscape management and design—not simply acreage—part of the ecological intervention.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

The study reports large observational associations and modelled greening scenarios. It does not show that a particular local planting program will cause the same response; climate, morphology, vegetation type, management and socioeconomic context will shape outcomes.
