Geography

Seville, Spain

System

Dense urban district

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

A GIS, remote-sensing and CFD framework compared baseline, reflective-material and reflective-plus-greening scenarios. Reflective materials alone reduced peak air temperature by about 1.25 °C but worsened daytime outdoor comfort through increased radiant exposure; the combined scenario produced localized UTCI reductions above 7 °C and reduced severe heat exposure by two to four hours per day.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Urban heat design should measure human thermal exposure, not just air temperature or surface temperature. Interventions can improve one physical metric while worsening the actual experience they are meant to address.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

This is a modeled district-scale assessment validated against in-situ temperature measurements, not a completed post-occupancy intervention. Performance will depend on urban geometry, species choice, irrigation and local climate.
