## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Researchers combined long-term butterfly observations from a two-hectare agriwilding system with later standardized surveys across agriwilding, conventional agriculture and nature-management sites. Thirty butterfly species were recorded over 15 years, and standardized monitoring found significantly higher butterfly and moth diversity in the agriwilding system than in conventional agriculture, with moth diversity similar to nearby nature-management systems.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

The study is a useful proof-of-concept for biodiversity recovery inside a productive agricultural matrix: structural complexity and perennial habitat can create real conservation value without requiring the site to become a conventional reserve.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

This is one small agriwilding system in Belgium, not a replicated long-term experiment across farms. The early butterfly record was cumulative rather than a uniform annual standardized time series, and the study did not jointly test biodiversity gains against agricultural yield or farm economics.
