## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Researchers mapped 13,419 fires from 2000–2023, identified statistically significant spatiotemporal fire clusters, and overlaid them with modeled habitat value for 108 vertebrate species. About 60% of burned area fell within high-value ecological zones, including potential ranges of multiple Red Listed species.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

The analysis turns a generic fire-risk map into a triage tool by asking where repeated fire exposure and modeled biodiversity value coincide. That can focus field verification and prevention where ecological stakes are highest.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

The study maps exposure and modeled habitat value, not pre- versus post-fire population change or impact severity. Species distributions were modeled with MaxEnt, and the authors explicitly lacked direct before-and-after biodiversity data.
