Evidence

Peer-reviewed seafloor study

Geography

Fram Strait, Greenland/Russian High Arctic

System

Deep-sea benthic habitats

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Seafloor imagery recorded local increases in dropstones, while four decades of ship observations show more icebergs since the early 2000s. Transport modelling implicates glacier calving and sea-ice dynamics.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Cryospheric loss can redistribute habitat and shipping hazards together; conservation narratives should account for seabed effects, not only retreating ice.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

Attribution in Russian sectors is limited by sparse satellite observations. Local habitat change does not prove an Arctic-wide net biodiversity gain.
