Evidence

Peer-reviewed randomized restoration experiment

Geography

Florida Panhandle, USA

System

Wet prairie / longleaf pine wetland

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Twelve treatments combined cutting, organic-layer scraping, diaspore transfer and prescribed fire. Mechanical clearing alone produced initial reduction followed by strong woody rebound; scraping reinforced persistence, while propagule transfer increased forbs.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Wetland recovery needs attention to substrate and seed limitation as well as woody stems. More complex treatments moved vegetation closer to references, but did not fully restore them.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

Soil scraping is intrusive and site-dependent; vegetation remained different from reference wetlands, and ecological collateral effects matter.
