## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

On October 14, NOAA's RESTORE Science Program announced an additional $24.7 million for five research projects first funded in 2019, spanning about 20 institutions. Work includes independent reef-fish video surveys, deep-pelagic sampling, marine-mammal acoustics, high-marsh bird and fire studies, and Mobile Bay fishery ecology.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Environmental decisions improve when time series survive more than a grant cycle. Continuing shared field observations can clarify the variation that short-term monitoring mistakes for trends—if the datasets are maintained and used in actual management.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

This is an official funding and program announcement, not independent evidence that fish stocks, marsh habitat or ecosystem condition have improved.
