Evidence

Peer-reviewed

Geography

Kathmandu Valley and Bagmati River corridor, Nepal

System

Urban stormwater, heat and green infrastructure

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Dhakal and colleagues combine GIS, hydrologic modeling, field assessment and stakeholder evaluation of Kathmandu green infrastructure. The paper reports intervention-associated or modeled runoff reductions up to 40%, nutrient-load reductions over 60%, and local temperature differences of 3–4 °C; it identifies river corridors and low-lying zones as priorities.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Green infrastructure changes water and heat pathways only if it is fitted to drainage, flood exposure and land management. Institutional coordination and funded maintenance, which stakeholders identified as constraints, belong in performance design from the outset.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

Reported maxima come from the study's combined models and assessments, not proof of equal realized benefit citywide; an accepted peer-reviewed version is subject to final editorial changes.
