Peer-reviewed review

Geography

Global rangeland synthesis with East African research leadership

System

Rangelands; livestock and wild herbivore coexistence

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Mramba, Kisanga and Kabuni synthesize literature on livestock production, wild herbivores, ecosystems and institutions. They propose Functional Systems Integration to connect spatial planning, governance and ecological processes that are often managed separately.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

A grazing arrangement will not succeed on forage ecology alone when access rules, mobility and livelihood incentives work against it. The proposed framework gives planners hypotheses to test in shared-use landscapes.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

Authors explicitly describe their model as conceptual and unvalidated in contrasting field contexts. Do not claim it has delivered measured conservation outcomes.
