Geography

Macenta, Guinea, and Malaysian Borneo

System

Human activity mapping; forest–settlement interface; One Health

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

A field feasibility study compared GPS wearables and phones among people living or working near remote tropical forests. A custom wrist-worn logger offered practical advantages for battery endurance, location recording and user comfort in low-connectivity conditions, potentially enabling better measurement of where human–wildlife interfaces occur.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

The spatial distribution of actual human activity is a prerequisite for credible exposure hypotheses. Tool comfort and operational robustness may shape sampling bias as much as satellite accuracy.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

Limited feasibility testing, not evidence of actual spillover or infection. Wearable tracks do not directly observe animal presence, contact or pathogen transmission; privacy and informed consent remain essential.
