Evidence

Peer-reviewed

Geography

Yellow River delta, China

System

River sediment operations; coastal delta geomorphology

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

A SedFlux process-model reconstruction of Yellow River daily observations for 2002–2014 estimated that water-sediment-regulation events occupied roughly 5.5% of days but contributed about 19%–25% of simulated delta-front deposition by depth. Machine-learning analysis identified sediment supply as a leading driver; adding grain-composition information offered modest improvements whose uncertainty overlapped zero.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

River-management decisions shape coastal sediment trajectories on an uneven clock. Evaluate sediment operations separately from biological productivity or measured coastline change.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

The depositional contribution is a modeling result, not an independently verified sediment budget. This accepted peer-reviewed article was online before final typesetting.
