Evidence

Peer-reviewed

Geography

Yellow River Delta saline soil, China; 370-day microcosm

System

Biochar, coastal soils and microbial necromass

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Pairing corn-straw biochar with Suaeda salsa litter increased microbial necromass carbon by about 25–54% relative to litter alone and altered lignin and bacterial necromass indicators.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

The surrounding plant-input system can change a soil amendment's outcome; the carbon fraction measured matters.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

This is a microcosm, not a field management trial. Carbon fractions and stability signals do not demonstrate net or permanent soil carbon sequestration.
