Evidence

Peer-reviewed

Geography

Kubuqi Desert, Inner Mongolia, China; 2000–2023

System

Dryland revegetation; remote sensing; land-use conversion

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

An NDVI reconstruction classified 63.97% of Kubuqi Desert pixels as improving and found 15.49% of the area converted from barren land to grassland. Simultaneous cropland shifts and climate associations complicate the interpretation.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Satellite greening indicates canopy activity, not necessarily return of native composition, soil functions or long-term restoration resilience.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

Correlative records cannot separate management and weather causality. Future NDVI and persistence estimates are forecasts, not measured outcomes.
