Evidence

Peer-reviewed

Geography

Urban streams, Vancouver region, British Columbia, Canada

System

Urban salmon restoration and stream decomposition

## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

A structural-equation analysis related cotton-strip decomposition to stream imperviousness, habitat characteristics and restoration intensity. More impervious surroundings predicted faster decomposition, but restoration intensity did not predict decomposition rates.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Restored physical habitat may have value without reversing catchment-level processes; success monitoring should include functions beyond habitat design.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

One response variable and observational models do not imply all salmon conservation efforts failed. Original published 22 July 2026.
