## WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

A Landscape Architecture Foundation research update examines the management of biodiverse public and institutional landscapes. The emerging findings are less about design form than what happens after handoff: inadequate maintenance training, limited funding, weak designer–owner–maintenance coordination, one-size-fits-all landscape contracts, and aesthetic expectations favoring manicured landscapes all constrain long-term ecological performance.

## WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

That sits almost exactly at the boundary between ecology, landscape architecture and implementation science: the ecological success of a designed landscape may be determined as much by the operating institution as by the planting plan.

## CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

The cited LAF page is a research update based on surveys and interviews. Its emerging findings should not be treated as a completed causal evaluation of ecological performance.
