WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS
Nursery seed origin and admixture altered plant traits, but the experiment did not find corresponding differences in performance responses to imposed soil-moisture extremes. The result separates trait variation from demonstrated stress-performance advantage.
WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ
Seed sourcing still matters, but this result cautions against assuming that greater admixture or a particular nursery origin necessarily produces short-term drought or excess-moisture resilience. Trait differences need to be linked to performance before they become a management claim.
CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY
This was a short-term nursery experiment in one species, not a field establishment or multigenerational test. Seed-source effects may emerge under other climates, life stages, competition or longer time horizons.
