WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS
Using net surveys and eDNA, researchers sampled 40 garden and 53 other ponds. Only two had invasive Aedes koreicus. Fish presence correlated negatively with mosquito occurrence and abundance; urbanization was not a major explanatory variable.
WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ
Pond design and food-web composition can matter more than the city's average built-cover measure.
CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY
Observational fish association is not a blanket recommendation to stock urban ponds; introduced fish can harm amphibians and invertebrates. Detection does not imply disease transmission.
