Ebola antibodies

Outbreak genomics can narrow antibody hypotheses before it can establish treatment efficacy

Geography
Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda
System
Bundibugyo virus outbreak / One Health disease system

WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS

Researchers analyzed 44 Bundibugyo virus sequences, including 12 from the 2026 outbreak, and used genomic and structural analyses to assess how existing Ebola monoclonal antibodies may bind the outbreak glycoprotein.

WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ

Rapid genomic analysis can prioritize which countermeasures deserve laboratory and clinical attention during an outbreak, shortening the hypothesis space before definitive efficacy evidence exists.

CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY

The paper predicts antibody binding and potential efficacy; it does not demonstrate clinical effectiveness in patients. The published version is an early peer-reviewed article that remains subject to editorial replacement by the final version of record.
