WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS
A province-scale census mapped 16,250 poplar sections spanning 12,179 hectares, versus previously published satellite estimates of 40,485–80,783 hectares. An expert survey highlighted fragmentation and trade constraints.
WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ
Field and satellite maps can describe different land classes; economic feasibility also determines adoption.
CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY
Earlier estimates differ in method/date and may not be wrong on the same definition. Purposive expert sampling is not a farmer census.
