Sea-turtle activity sensors need a reporting standard before comparison
WHAT THE EVIDENCE SAYS
An October 16 methods Comment in Animal Biotelemetry examines accelerometer reporting for marine turtle research. Its authors identify recurring gaps in how device position, attachment, measurement range and processing details are communicated and propose more complete reporting and welfare checks.
WHY IT MATTERS / OUR READ
Biologging instruments generate very precise numbers, but those numbers are only comparable when deployment and analysis decisions are transparent. This is a weak signal about research practice worth watching, not a finding that existing turtle studies are invalid.
CAVEATS / UNCERTAINTY
This is an expert commentary and methodological recommendation, not a controlled test proving that all prior estimates are biased or that a specific standard has already been adopted.
