A 2002–2022 remote-sensing analysis of Hwange National Park links variation in fire incidence to land-surface temperature and precipitation and argues against managing a large protected savanna as though it had one fire regime.
The roads themselves directly occupied roughly 1,046 km² of intact forest, but fragmentation increased 4.3-fold, and more than 30,000 km² of intact-forest loss occurred within 1 km of newly constructed roads.
The new analysis found a negative association between malaria prevalence and mangrove extent, while greater mangrove “greenness” could show a positive relationship depending on scale and analytical pathway.
